Xbox Unveils New Digital-Only Series X Model and More in Surprise Summer Showcase

In a surprise mid-year showcase, Xbox pulled back the curtain on a host of upcoming hardware updates and additions, including a sleek new digital-only Xbox Series X model, sparking excitement — and some debate — among fans.

The headliner of the showcase was undoubtedly the all-digital white Xbox Series X, which mirrors the performance of the original model but removes the disc drive entirely. Designed for players who have fully embraced digital game libraries and Xbox Game Pass, the new model sports a clean, minimalist look, reminiscent of the digital-only Series S. It’s expected to launch later this year at a more affordable price point than its disc-enabled counterpart.

Alongside the white Series X, Xbox also revealed a 2TB special edition of the Series X in a striking Galaxy Black color scheme. This storage-focused upgrade aims to satisfy players who are increasingly feeling the crunch of limited space as modern game files continue to swell. The 2TB model will launch with a premium price tag but will also include a complementary digital copy of Starfield as a pack-in bonus — a smart move to entice digital-centric space explorers.

The smallest member of the Xbox family didn’t go unnoticed either. The Xbox Series S is receiving a new 1TB variant in Robot White, finally closing the feature gap left by last year’s Carbon Black 1TB model. Fans welcomed the news, praising Xbox for giving budget-conscious gamers more storage without requiring a jump in console tier.

Phil Spencer, CEO of Xbox, emphasized the company’s commitment to offering “choice, value, and flexibility” during the showcase. “We’ve listened to our community,” he said. “Whether you’re all-digital, craving storage, or stepping into gaming for the first time, we now have an Xbox for every kind of player.”

With no mention of a so-called “next-gen successor” just yet, Xbox’s strategy appears to be refining its current-gen offerings to match evolving player habits. The message is clear: the Xbox ecosystem is expanding — not just in software and services, but in hardware that keeps pace with how players access and enjoy their games.
