Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree Release Date Revealed, Gameplay Trailer Teases Massive New World

FromSoftware has finally peeled back the curtain on Shadow of the Erdtree, the much-anticipated expansion for its critically acclaimed action-RPG, Elden Ring. Slated to launch on June 21, 2024, the massive DLC will take players deep into a haunting new region beyond the Lands Between. A freshly released gameplay trailer offers a tantalizing glimpse into what’s to come, showing off new bosses, lore-rich environments, and gameplay mechanics sure to excite long-time fans.

Shadow of the Erdtree follows in FromSoftware’s tradition of ambitious expansions, with early commentary suggesting content that rivals full-length titles in scope. The trailer reveals a vast, mist-shrouded realm called the Land of Shadow, filled with decaying ruins, spectral warriors, and oppressive golden light that hints at corruption from the Erdtree itself. Players will allegedly follow Miquella, a previously elusive and enigmatic demigod, as he journeys toward a mysterious fate that ties directly into Elden Ring’s deepest lore threads.

The new footage teases a range of terrifying adversaries, including grotesque insectoid warriors, flame-clad giants, and a heavily armored knight wielding an arched greatsword with gravity-defying moves. Fans can also expect fresh weapons, armor sets, and sorceries, expanding combat strategies in both PvE and PvP encounters. One particularly striking shot features the player character diving through a broken sky bridge while fending off glowing spectral archers—suggesting the expansion will maintain the game’s signature blend of challenge and spectacle.

FromSoftware also confirmed that Shadow of the Erdtree will release simultaneously across platforms, including PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via Steam. The DLC will be available for $39.99, with both standard and deluxe editions featuring extras like digital art books and soundtracks.

With just four months until release, the hype surrounding Elden Ring’s DLC has gone supernova. Given the success of the base game—which won Game of the Year at The Game Awards in 2022—expectations couldn’t be higher. If the trailer is any indication, Shadow of the Erdtree might not just expand the Lands Between—it could redefine them entirely.
