Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree DLC Gets Official Release Date and Jaw-Dropping New Trailer

FromSoftware has finally lifted the veil on Shadow of the Erdtree, the long-awaited DLC for its critically acclaimed action RPG, Elden Ring. Announced this morning via an explosive new trailer, the expansion is officially slated for release on June 21, 2024—marking the studio’s largest expansion yet and setting the stage for a return to the haunting beauty and despairing grandeur of the Lands Between.

Fans were treated to a nearly three-minute cinematic trailer brimming with cryptic lore, foreboding new landscapes, and glimpses of what appear to be new bosses, weapons, and gameplay features. The trailer opens with a captivating shot of a sun-drenched wheat field, contrasting the grim tone the franchise is known for, before quickly descending into the moody, gothic vibe players expect from FromSoft. Most striking, however, is the appearance of a mysterious, long-rumored character cloaked in gold—hinted to be Miquella, the elusive sibling of Malenia, a fan-favorite boss from the base game.

Shadow of the Erdtree will introduce an entirely new realm for players to explore, featuring otherworldly biomes, towering ruins, and grotesque new enemies that will surely test veteran Tarnished. FromSoftware promises expanded lore, fresh secrets, and a narrative thread that dives deeper into the intricacies of the Erdtree and its golden roots.

“Shadow of the Erdtree is the most ambitious expansion we’ve ever attempted,” said Hidetaka Miyazaki, FromSoftware’s creative director, in a press release. “We wanted to create something that not only continues Elden Ring’s story, but challenges everything players have come to expect from the game’s world and mechanics.”

Alongside the trailer, Bandai Namco also revealed pre-order bonuses for collectors: a deluxe edition featuring a hardcover artbook and digital soundtrack, as well as an ultra-limited Miquella figurine for die-hard fans. With the hype machine now fully engaged, June 21st can’t come soon enough.

The Lands Between are calling once again—prepare to answer.
