Nintendo Confirms New Console Reveal Slated for This Fiscal Year

MelloGeneral Gaming News4 days ago3 Views

In an announcement that sent shockwaves through the gaming community this morning, Nintendo officially confirmed that its next-generation console will be revealed before the end of this fiscal year. The highly anticipated successor to the wildly successful Nintendo Switch has long been the subject of rumors and speculation, but this marks the company’s first firm commitment to unveiling the new hardware within a definitive timeframe.

In a post shared by Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa, the company stated, “We will make an announcement about the successor to Nintendo Switch within this fiscal year,” which for Nintendo concludes in March 2025. While details remain scarce, the confirmation alone is enough to ignite speculation about what innovations the gaming giant has in store.

The current Nintendo Switch launched in March 2017 and has sold over 139 million units globally, cementing its legacy as one of the best-selling consoles of all time. However, with the hardware beginning to show its age—especially in comparison to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S—fans and developers alike have been eagerly awaiting news on what’s next.

Rumors over the past year have pointed to development kits already being in the hands of select industry partners, with speculation about features like DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling), backward compatibility, and improved portable performance swirling online. Leaks have also suggested the new console could continue the hybrid design philosophy, enabling both handheld and docked play.

Importantly, Nintendo emphasized that there would not be any information regarding the console at the upcoming June Nintendo Direct, which will instead focus solely on software lineup for the second half of 2024. That said, industry analysts are already predicting a full reveal event as early as fall 2024.

With rivals Sony and Microsoft continuing to push high-powered hardware and subscription services, all eyes are now on how Nintendo plans to evolve its approach while maintaining its unique identity in the console market.

For now, fans will have to wait a bit longer, but the countdown to the next chapter of Nintendo gaming has officially begun.
