Elden Ring DLC “Shadow of the Erdtree” Release Date Announced, Promises Expansive New Realm

FromSoftware has finally lifted the veil on “Shadow of the Erdtree,” the highly anticipated DLC expansion for Elden Ring, confirming a release date of June 21, 2024. Fans of the critically acclaimed open-world RPG have been eagerly awaiting more content since the game launched in February 2022. Now, with just a few months to go, new details are emerging that suggest this expansion may rival — or even surpass — the main game in scope and ambition.

According to a new reveal trailer shared across official Bandai Namco and FromSoftware channels, “Shadow of the Erdtree” will transport players to a previously unseen land called the Land of Shadow, a realm steeped in mystery and hidden from the narrative of the base game. The trailer teases hauntingly beautiful new environments, grotesque enemy designs, and cryptic lore in true FromSoftware fashion. It also appears that Miquella, the elusive sibling of Malenia who remained shrouded in mystery throughout Elden Ring, will take a central role in the DLC’s storyline.

Director Hidetaka Miyazaki has hinted in interviews that “Shadow of the Erdtree” will not be a mere side chapter but a substantial expansion, introducing entirely new regions to explore, dozens of weapons and spells, fresh bosses, and a gameplay experience finely tuned to challenge even veteran players. Early impressions based on press previews suggest that the DLC’s map will be nearly as large as Limgrave, the game’s starting area, ensuring plenty of secrets and surprises await.

Given the base game’s massive success — selling over 20 million copies — expectations are sky-high. However, FromSoftware’s track record with celebrated expansions like Dark Souls III’s “The Ringed City” gives fans reason to believe this latest addition will deliver.
