Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree Expansion Gets June Release Date and Stunning New Trailer

FromSoftware has finally answered the prayers of Tarnished everywhere, unveiling the long-awaited release date for Elden Ring’s massive Shadow of the Erdtree expansion. Set to launch on June 21, 2024, the upcoming DLC promises to push the boundaries of the Lands Between, expanding the acclaimed open-world RPG with new environments, deadly bosses, and deeper lore.

Revealed in a breathtaking new trailer, Shadow of the Erdtree showcases glimpses of never-before-seen regions cloaked in mystery, along with eerie dungeons and twisted grotesque enemies that stay true to FromSoftware’s dark fantasy roots. Perhaps most tantalizing are the hints at new narrative threads tied to Miquella, the elusive demigod whose fate was left largely unexplored in the base game. Promotional material hints that players will “follow in the footsteps of Miquella,” suggesting that the expansion may finally reveal what happened to the slumbering Empyrean after his abduction by Mohg, Lord of Blood.

In addition to fresh story content, Shadow of the Erdtree is expected to offer a slew of new weapons, armor sets, and magic types, providing even more variety to Elden Ring’s already rich combat system. Early footage from the trailer teased what appear to be new boss encounters, one of which features a towering knight with a flaming greatsword and another resembling a corrupted tree-stag hybrid, underscoring FromSoftware’s knack for inventive and terrifying enemy design.

The DLC is available for pre-order now, with a Collector’s Edition that includes a 40-page hardcover artbook and an exclusive statue of Messmer the Impaler—a fearsome new character introduced in the trailer—and early access to the expansion content.
