Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree DLC Gets Official Release Date and Stunning New Trailer

After nearly two years of buildup and fan speculation, FromSoftware has officially announced the release date for Elden Ring’s long-awaited expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree. The highly anticipated DLC will launch on June 21, 2024, for all platforms where Elden Ring is currently playable, including PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.

Revealed alongside a breathtaking new trailer, Shadow of the Erdtree promises to deliver a deeper dive into the Lands Between, expanding the already massive world with new regions, enemies, weapons, and lore. The trailer showcases hauntingly beautiful landscapes, grim new creatures, and what appears to be a major new storyline centered around Miquella, a key figure in the base game’s lore who has long been shrouded in mystery.

The trailer also teases a brutal new boss lineup that fans have come to expect from FromSoftware’s punishing design philosophy. From grotesque giants drenched in gold to crablike monstrosities perched atop ruined temples, the DLC looks to raise the stakes both narratively and mechanically. Additionally, glimpses of what appear to be new spell types and weapon arts suggest a fresh layer of combat options for players who dare to confront these new threats.

In a press release, Bandai Namco described the expansion as “the largest and most ambitious DLC in FromSoftware’s history,” hinting at an experience that could rival even its main campaign in scale. Game director Hidetaka Miyazaki noted that this was “a story best told after the player’s path has crossed both grace and flame,” suggesting that the DLC is designed as post-endgame content for veteran Tarnished.

Pre-orders for Shadow of the Erdtree are now live, with multiple editions available, including a Collector’s Edition featuring a detailed statue of Messmer the Impaler—one of the new boss characters teased in the trailer.

Elden Ring fans have been clamoring for more since the base game’s release in early 2022, and it looks like FromSoftware is ready to deliver. Come June, Tarnished around the world will once again rise to seek new glory beneath the Erdtree’s fading light.
