Ubisoft has officially revealed that *Star Wars Outlaws*, the highly anticipated open-world title set in a galaxy far, far away, will launch on August 30, 2024. The announcement was made during today’s Ubisoft Forward presentation, which also featured an in-depth gameplay showcase that has fans buzzing with excitement.
Developed by Massive Entertainment in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games, *Star Wars Outlaws* is set between the events of *The Empire Strikes Back* and *Return of the Jedi*. Players will take on the role of Kay Vess, a cunning scoundrel navigating the criminal underworld during one of the galaxy’s most chaotic periods. Alongside her loyal companion, Nix, Kay will travel across a variety of iconic and original locations, from bustling Coruscant alleys to brand-new planets never before seen in the franchise.
The extended gameplay demo shown during the Ubisoft Forward event focused on Kay undertaking a high-stakes heist. The demonstration highlighted stealth mechanics, speeder bike chases, and branching dialogue choices that affect interactions with the game’s key crime syndicates. Fans were particularly impressed by the seamless transition between space and planetary travel, a feature reminiscent of *No Man’s Sky* but grounded in the Star Wars aesthetic.
Ubisoft also revealed multiple editions of the game for pre-order, including a Gold Edition that grants three-day early access and a Season Pass with DLC missions. *Star Wars Outlaws* is being released for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
This marks the first fully open-world Star Wars game in the franchise’s history, and expectations are high. With *Star Wars Jedi: Survivor* recently raising the bar for narrative and combat systems, Massive Entertainment seems poised to deliver a fresh experience focused more on player choice, exploration, and the seedier sides of galactic life.
With just under three months to go until launch, the countdown to stepping into Kay Vess’s boots is officially on. And if today’s gameplay is any indicator, the Force may be very strong with this one.
