Ubisoft has officially confirmed the long-speculated return of one of its most iconic stealth-action franchises. During a surprise reveal stream today, the publisher announced that a full remake of the original *Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell* is currently in development and is slated for release in 2025.
The remake is being handled by Ubisoft Toronto, the studio behind *Splinter Cell: Blacklist*, and promises to stay true to the series’ foundations while modernizing core systems for today’s hardware. The original *Splinter Cell*, released in 2002, introduced players to Sam Fisher, the now-legendary NSA operative, blending cutting-edge stealth gameplay with high-stakes espionage storytelling. The game quickly became a pillar of early 2000s gaming, helping to define the stealth genre alongside franchises like *Metal Gear Solid* and *Thief*.
In today’s announcement, Ubisoft revealed that the remake is being built from the ground up using the Snowdrop engine — the same engine powering upcoming titles like *Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora* and *Star Wars Outlaws*. “Our goal is to deliver a deeply immersive experience that preserves the spirit and tension of the original, but with modern visuals, smart AI, and refined controls,” said Creative Director Chris Auty.
While the teaser didn’t showcase gameplay footage, it did offer a glimpse at reimagined environments and a remastered version of the iconic green night vision glow. Ubisoft also confirmed that new tools and mechanics are being considered to better align with current-gen expectations, though they emphasized that the game will remain linear, avoiding the open-world sprawl that defines most of today’s Ubisoft titles.
Longtime fans have been clamoring for Fisher’s return since the last full entry landed over a decade ago. With this remake, Ubisoft aims to reintroduce *Splinter Cell* to a new generation while rekindling nostalgia for those who’ve been with the series since the beginning.
No specific platforms have been announced, but the game is expected to release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Expect more details throughout 2024 as Ubisoft gears up for Sam Fisher’s long-awaited comeback.
