Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree Release Date Revealed Alongside New Gameplay Trailer

FromSoftware has finally broken its silence on one of the most anticipated DLC expansions in recent memory. “Shadow of the Erdtree,” the long-awaited Elden Ring expansion, is officially set to release on June 21, 2024. To mark the announcement, Bandai Namco and FromSoftware revealed a brand-new gameplay trailer, giving fans their first in-depth look at what lies beyond the Lands Between.

The trailer, which runs just over three minutes, showcases a darker, more twisted realm steeped in decay and divine mystery. Players are introduced to an entirely new map distinct from the base game, filled with grotesque new enemies, towering ruins, and a chilling celestial sky that hints at dire cosmological conflicts. Notably, the trailer teases encounters with what appear to be ancient deities and spectral knights, suggesting the lore will dive even deeper into the mythology hinted at in the main story.

Miquella, a central figure long shrouded in secrecy, appears to play a crucial role in the expansion. While previously only referenced in item descriptions and vague NPC dialogue, the trailer strongly implies that players will now witness Miquella’s journey firsthand — or possibly confront him directly. The appearance of a new golden tree, twisted and dying, raises more questions than answers about the continuation of Queen Marika’s legacy and the true nature of the Erdtree itself.

FromSoftware also confirmed that Shadow of the Erdtree will be sold separately and is not included in any previous special editions of Elden Ring. The DLC will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Preorders are live now, with deluxe bundles offering new artbooks and a behind-the-scenes featurette.

With just four months until launch, fans can finally start preparing to return to a brutal world of cryptic lore, relentless enemies, and awe-inspiring exploration. If the trailer is any indication, Shadow of the Erdtree might not only match the original game’s ambition — it could very well elevate Elden Ring’s already-legendary status to new heights.
