Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree Release Date Confirmed Alongside Epic Gameplay Trailer

FromSoftware has finally pulled back the curtain on Shadow of the Erdtree, the hotly anticipated expansion to 2022’s Game of the Year, Elden Ring. In a surprise reveal this morning, the studio confirmed that the DLC will launch on June 21, 2024, accompanied by a jaw-dropping trailer that offers a glimpse into the haunting new world awaiting Tarnished veterans.

The trailer, which premiered across Bandai Namco’s official channels, runs nearly four minutes and wastes no time showing off a suite of new horrors, massive bosses, and a vast new land seemingly torn from the Erdtree’s shadow itself. Players were quick to spot references to fan-favorite characters and lore bits potentially linked to Miquella—a figure previously shrouded in mystery throughout the base game. In typical FromSoftware fashion, answers are scarce, but the atmosphere and enemy design are nothing short of breathtaking.

Shadow of the Erdtree marks the first and only major DLC for Elden Ring. According to game director Hidetaka Miyazaki, this expansion will offer a similar scope to the previous Soulsborne DLCs like Bloodborne’s The Old Hunters or Dark Souls III’s The Ringed City, promising a massive new area filled with narrative threads, new weapons, and deadly adversaries.

Fans have been eagerly awaiting any news on the DLC since its initial announcement over a year ago, and today’s trailer does not disappoint. The upcoming expansion signals FromSoftware’s commitment to delivering uncompromising, lore-rich content — even as they reportedly begin pre-production on their next original IP.

Shadow of the Erdtree will be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam. Pre-orders for the DLC and its Collector’s Edition — which includes a statue of the mysterious new antagonist and artbook — are already live across major retailers.

With just a few months to go before its release, the Erdtree’s shadow looms larger than ever, and the Lands Between are set to beckon players back into their unforgettable, perilous embrace.
