After more than a year of cryptic teasers and radio silence, FromSoftware has finally shattered the fog wall: Elden Ring’s long-awaited DLC, *Shadow of the Erdtree*, is officially launching on June 21, 2024. Alongside the release date, the Japanese developer also unveiled a jaw-dropping new trailer offering a tantalizing glimpse into the expansion’s mysterious new realm—and the fierce foes that await.
First announced in February 2023, *Shadow of the Erdtree* had remained under wraps, with fans left to speculate over lore snippets, concept art, and possible narrative directions. The new trailer confirms that players will venture into a previously unseen section of the Lands Between—one that feels both hauntingly familiar and wholly alien. Set in a twisted, ethereal world shrouded in gold-tinged mist, the expansion leans heavily into the cosmic and dark fantasy vibes that Souls fans have come to love.
The trailer introduces new monstrous enemies, a vast, hauntingly beautiful landscape, and teases a central figure presumed to be Miquella, the elusive sibling of Malenia and demigod child of Queen Marika. Long shrouded in mystery within the base game, Miquella appears to play an integral role in *Shadow of the Erdtree’s* narrative, potentially unlocking one of the more enigmatic threads left dangling after Elden Ring’s original finale.
FromSoftware has confirmed that the expansion will feature new bosses, armor sets, weapons, and exploration zones “equal in scope to one of the game’s larger legacy dungeons”—suggesting a size and ambition more akin to *Dark Souls III: The Ringed City* than a typical DLC drop.
Pre-orders for *Shadow of the Erdtree* are already live, with a Deluxe Edition offering a digital art book and original soundtrack. PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One players can all prepare to return to the Lands Between this summer.
For Tarnished eager to get back into battle, June can’t come soon enough. And if the trailer is anything to go by, the Erdtree still has secrets left to burn.
