Call of Duty fans, the long-awaited reveal is finally here — and it’s a big one. Activision has officially confirmed that the next installment in its blockbuster franchise is none other than Call of Duty: Black Ops Gulf War, set for release later this year. Developed by Treyarch, the game will dive into one of the most pivotal global conflicts of the late 20th century, offering players a return to grounded, gritty military storytelling — something fans of classic Black Ops titles have been craving.

Set during the early 1990s, Black Ops: Gulf War will feature a fully-fledged single-player campaign, which the developers promise will explore the shadowy geopolitical operations behind the Gulf conflict. The campaign will feature real-world historical events intertwined with the signature conspiracy-laden narrative the Black Ops subseries is known for. Players will step into the boots of an elite operative navigating complex alliances, covert missions, and the fog of war as tensions mount in the Middle East.

Multiplayer will return with a robust launch-day offering, including new weapons grounded in early ’90s military tech, region-specific maps, and a reimagined create-a-class system inspired by player feedback. Treyarch also confirmed that fan-favorite modes will return, alongside some innovative features that will be detailed during a full multiplayer reveal in August.

For the undead-slaying faithful, there’s more good news: Zombies mode is back and “bigger than ever.” This time, players will face off against reimagined threats in an ambitious open-area format. While details remain scarce, Treyarch teased co-op story elements and modern progression systems designed to keep players engaged well beyond launch.

Activision says more information, including gameplay footage, is coming during the Xbox Games Showcase next month, where fans can expect a deeper dive into all three core pillars of the game. With the last few entries receiving mixed receptions, Black Ops: Gulf War looks poised to revitalize excitement around the franchise — and perhaps even redefine what a historical Call of Duty experience can be.
