FromSoftware has finally lifted the veil on one of the most anticipated expansions in recent memory—Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, officially launching June 21. After months of cryptic messages and community speculation, today’s brand-new trailer offers a deep dive into the dark new world awaiting Tarnished players, featuring glimpses of staggering enemies, haunting vistas, and major expansion to the game’s lore.
The trailer opens with sweeping cinematic shots of the Land of Shadow, a mysterious realm shrouded in twilight and ash. Players will recognize familiar motifs from the base game, but the mood here is unmistakably darker. The narration hints at a forgotten war, a forsaken god, and a fractured legacy tied to Queen Marika. While the base game already offered a densely layered mythos, Shadow of the Erdtree looks poised to peel back even more of Elden Ring’s enigmatic story.
But it’s not just lore that has fans buzzing—combat is dialing up the stakes. The trailer introduces at least six new bosses, each more grotesque and foreboding than the last. From a flame-wreathed colossus to a serpent-wielding knight, the foes shown appear tailor-made to challenge even veteran players hoisting +10 Colossal Weapons.
FromSoftware has confirmed that Shadow of the Erdtree will feature a new progression path alongside the main map, meaning players won’t simply revisit familiar terrain. These fresh locations include ravaged temples, decaying castles suspended in the sky, and a sunless swamp that looks mechanically unique in both visibility and traversal.
In terms of requirements, players must have defeated Mohg, Lord of Blood, to access the DLC—a nod to how hidden and hardcore Elden Ring’s optional content can get.
Pre-orders are now live across all platforms, with several editions including exclusive in-game bonuses and physical collectibles like a 40-page lore book and an art statue of the new boss “Messmer the Impaler.”
With just over a month to go before release, the hype train has officially left the station. Shadow of the Erdtree might not just expand Elden Ring—it could redefine what FromSoftware’s open-world masterpiece is capable of.
