FromSoftware has finally answered the prayers of Tarnished everywhere: the long-awaited DLC for Elden Ring, titled *Shadow of the Erdtree*, officially drops on June 21, 2024. Revealed earlier today in a breathtaking new trailer, the expansion promises to further deepen the lore and challenge of last year’s Game of the Year.
Set in an entirely new realm shrouded in golden mist and mysterious decay, *Shadow of the Erdtree* follows a new narrative path said to center around Miquella, a key figure in the original game’s complex mythos. The trailer showcases sprawling new regions filled with haunting architecture, grotesque new enemies, and several glimpses of intimidating bosses that are sure to test even the most seasoned players.
Hidetaka Miyazaki, FromSoftware’s president and the creative force behind Elden Ring, spoke briefly in a developer update. “With *Shadow of the Erdtree*, we wanted to explore the unseen edges of Elden Ring’s world. This expansion is as much about unraveling secrets as it is about pushing the boundaries of combat and world design.”
Players can also expect a host of new weapons, armor sets, and magic. FromSoftware has confirmed that the DLC will feature an entirely new legacy dungeon, on par with fan favorites like Stormveil Castle and Leyndell. The difficulty, of course, will remain signature Soulsborne — merciless and unforgiving.
The community has already erupted with excitement online. Forums and social media are ablaze with speculation about Miquella’s role, and eagle-eyed fans are already dissecting every frame of the trailer for hidden lore clues and references to cut content from the base game.
*Shadow of the Erdtree* will be available across all platforms where Elden Ring originally launched: PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. While the expansion requires the base game, new bundles combining both the original and DLC are expected to become available for newcomers.
With June now circled on calendars, The Lands Between are about to get a whole lot darker—and more dangerous. Prepare to die, once again.
