Elden Ring Expansion ‘Shadow of the Erdtree’ Drops June 21 — First Trailer Revealed

FromSoftware has finally lifted the veil on Elden Ring’s long-anticipated expansion, *Shadow of the Erdtree*, confirming a June 21 release date alongside a jaw-dropping new trailer that showcases massive new landscapes, grotesque enemies, and cryptic lore teases that are sure to send the Soulsborne community into speculation overdrive.

Revealed early this morning via Bandai Namco’s official channels, the trailer offers a breathtaking first look at what awaits Tarnished veterans in this next chapter of FromSoftware’s critically acclaimed RPG. Fans are already poring over each frame, trying to decipher the significance of a golden-haired, shrouded figure many believe to be Miquella — a binding thread in Elden Ring’s labyrinthine story who was notably absent from the base campaign.

“*Shadow of the Erdtree* is the largest expansion we’ve ever worked on,” said Hidetaka Miyazaki, FromSoftware’s director, in a statement released alongside the trailer. “It’s a new realm, a new narrative thread, and it will challenge players in the way that only Elden Ring can.” The expansion is said to feature a variety of new weapons, armor sets, and magic types, as well as bosses that rival — if not surpass — the difficulty spikes of the original game.

Set in an entirely new area described as “a land obscured by the Erdtree’s shadow,” the expansion appears to explore the darker corners of the Lands Between, with ash-covered fields, decaying temples, and gravity-defying architecture. The art direction retains FromSoftware’s Gothic touch, but suggests a more surreal tone — reminiscent at times of *Bloodborne’s* cosmic horror.

*Shadow of the Erdtree* will be priced at $39.99 and is available for pre-order now. Players will need the base game to access the expansion, and current-gen enhancements for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S will be part of the day-one patch, including faster load times and improved frame rates.

As the June 21 release approaches, expect the usual flurry of fan theories, lore deep-dives, and challenge run preparations. For Elden Ring fans, the journey is far from over — it’s headed somewhere darker, stranger, and more beautiful than ever.
