After more than a year of anticipation, FromSoftware has finally lifted the veil on Shadow of the Erdtree, the long-awaited expansion for Elden Ring. Set to release on June 21, 2024, the DLC was announced alongside a brand-new gameplay trailer that has fans more hyped than ever for their return to the Lands Between.
The trailer, which dropped early this morning, runs just under three minutes and offers a tantalizing glimpse into the strange new world that players will explore in the upcoming DLC. While narrative details are still scarce, the footage showcased a haunting landscape flooded with golden light, hideous new enemies, and what appears to be a deeper dive into the lore surrounding Miquella—one of Elden Ring’s most enigmatic characters. Fans have long speculated that Shadow of the Erdtree would center on Miquella’s journey, and this latest teaser all but confirms those theories.
Gameplay-wise, the DLC seems to build on Elden Ring’s established foundations with new weapons, fresh Ashes of War, and intense boss battles that look just as punishing—and cinematic—as anything in the base game. From towering twisted beasts to agile nightmarish knights, players can expect both spectacle and challenge when they dive in this summer.
Shadow of the Erdtree will be available for all platforms that Elden Ring currently supports: PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. Pre-orders are already live, including a limited Collector’s Edition featuring a statue of the main DLC antagonist and a hardcover art book.
With Elden Ring having sold over 20 million copies globally since its release in February 2022, this DLC is poised to reinvigorate the community and possibly even attract new Tarnished into the fold. Critical and commercial expectations are sky-high, but FromSoftware has proven time and again that it thrives under pressure.
As the release date approaches, players are eagerly dissecting every frame of the trailer and preparing for what could be one of the most impactful expansions in Soulsborne history. June 21 can’t come soon enough.
