FromSoftware has finally lifted the veil on Shadow of the Erdtree, the highly anticipated DLC for Elden Ring, delighting fans with an official release date and an eye-popping new trailer packed with gameplay reveals. Announced this morning via a stunning cinematic showcase, the DLC is set to launch globally on June 21, 2024, across all current-generation platforms.
The new trailer, clocking in at just under four minutes, gives players their first real glimpse into what awaits them in this next chapter of the Lands Between. Tonally more somber and mysterious than the base game’s trailers, the footage introduces expansive new regions, grotesque enemy designs, and teases of mind-bending lore that fans have come to expect from the cryptic storytelling of Hidetaka Miyazaki and his team.
Central to the trailer is the figure of Miquella—brother of the infamous Malenia—who appears to play a pivotal narrative role in Shadow of the Erdtree. While never fully seen in the base game, Miquella steps into the spotlight in the DLC, hinting at a storyline that could shake the foundations of Elden Ring’s already labyrinthine lore. Additionally, several new bosses are shown, including a spectral giant wielding what appears to be a flaming obsidian greatsword, and a haunting scene involving a decayed tree god rising from the earth.
Gameplay-wise, the trailer showcases entirely new weapon classes, updated magic systems, and never-before-seen traversal mechanics that hint at a verticality and openness even greater than what’s found in the base game. Players also caught a glimpse of what appears to be a new hub or refuge, suggesting that the DLC may be more substantial than a simple side expansion.
Bandai Namco confirmed that Shadow of the Erdtree will retail for $39.99 and will require the base game to play. Pre-orders are already live, and special collector’s editions are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
With less than four months to go, the hype for Elden Ring’s return to the spotlight is real—and based on this trailer, Shadow of the Erdtree may be FromSoftware’s most ambitious DLC to date.
