Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree DLC Release Date Confirmed, Adds Massive New Realm and Bosses

After months of anticipation and cryptic hints from FromSoftware, the developer has finally confirmed the release date for “Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree,” the highly-anticipated expansion to the 2022 Game of the Year. Slated for launch on June 21, 2024, the DLC promises to take players deeper into the mythos of the Lands Between with an entirely new realm, dozens of deadly adversaries, and a narrative shrouded in mystery.

The announcement came via a cinematic trailer released this morning, showcasing the hauntingly beautiful yet foreboding new setting: the Land of Shadow. Players will venture beyond the known world, where the Erdtree’s light barely reaches and forgotten legends stir once more. According to FromSoftware, the expansion will be the studio’s largest DLC yet, featuring over 10 bosses, new weapons and armor sets, and significant lore revelations that tie in closely with Miquella, a pivotal but enigmatic character from the base game.

Miyazaki, director of Elden Ring and president of FromSoftware, shared that Shadow of the Erdtree is meant to feel like a new chapter within the game’s universe, offering both narrative depth and punishing combat that fans have come to love. “We wanted to create a space that feels different from the Lands Between, but still rooted in the world’s mythos. You’ll confront horrifying new threats—and perhaps uncover the fate of Miquella,” Miyazaki said during a video briefing.

Alongside the release date, Bandai Namco confirmed that preorders for the DLC are now live, with a Collector’s Edition that includes an exclusive art book and Miquella-themed statue already selling out in some regions. The expansion will be available across all existing platforms: PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Shadow of the Erdtree will serve as a continuation, not a direct post-game chapter, meaning players will need to reach a minimum progression point—specifically defeating Mogh, Lord of Blood—to access the content. That gives Tarnished just a few months to prepare, and by the looks of it, they’ll need all the help they can get.
