FromSoftware has finally lifted the veil on its long-awaited Elden Ring expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree, with a spectacular new trailer and a confirmed release date: June 21, 2024. The announcement comes after months of speculation and soaring fan anticipation, offering a deeper glimpse into the dark and mysterious world beyond the Lands Between.

Unveiled in a new cinematic and gameplay hybrid trailer, Shadow of the Erdtree teases a haunting new landscape, monstrous bosses, and intriguing lore drops that have already set the internet ablaze. While details remain tightly guarded, the trailer showcases an array of disturbing new enemies, glowing golden thrones, and an ominous rider presumed to be Miquella—a figure frequently referenced in the base game but never seen in action.

Narrative cues suggest players will be diving into an entirely new location, likely accessed through Miquella’s cocoon in Mohg’s palace. Fans have long speculated about Miquella’s fate, and this expansion finally promises answers. The eerie tone of the footage, combined with cryptic voiceovers and mournful imagery, hints at a story drenched in sorrow and sacrifice—hallmarks of FromSoftware’s most beloved titles.

Gameplay-wise, the expansion appears to offer fresh weapons, spells, and challenges designed to push veterans to their limits. Several scenes depict massive new boss encounters, including what appears to be a multi-armed, flame-wielding colossus, as well as a serpentine foe that slithers across a battlefield lit in spectral blue fire.

Shadow of the Erdtree will be a paid DLC and is set to launch across all platforms where Elden Ring is available—PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.

With the base game having sold over 20 million copies and winning Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2022, expectations are sky-high. Based on the early footage alone, Shadow of the Erdtree might not just meet those expectations—it may surpass them and cement Elden Ring’s place as a modern classic with unmatched staying power.

Preorders are already live, and fans have just over four months to prepare to return to a world defined by grace, despair, and dragonfire.
