After months of speculation and eager anticipation, FromSoftware has finally broken their silence: *Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree*, the long-awaited expansion to 2022’s Game of the Year, will launch on June 21, 2024. The announcement came in the form of a cinematic trailer released early this morning, setting the internet ablaze with theories, breakdowns, and mounting excitement.

Set to expand upon the already vast and lore-rich Lands Between, *Shadow of the Erdtree* appears to take players into a new region tied to Miquella, the enigmatic Empyrean and brother to Malenia. While details are still sparse, the trailer teases haunting new landscapes, grotesque enemies, and a darker tone that seems to dig deeper into the game’s esoteric narrative.

FromSoftware director Hidetaka Miyazaki described the expansion as “the largest DLC we’ve ever created,” promising 15–20 hours of content featuring new bosses, weapons, dungeons, and storylines. Fans were quick to dissect the trailer’s cryptic imagery, including what appears to be a scorched Erdtree and golden specter-like figures looming over a ruined battlefield. Theories suggest the expansion may dive into the origins of the Erdtree’s corruption and the fate of Miquella after his abduction by Mohg, Lord of Blood.

The expansion will be available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC and will be sold as both a standalone add-on and as part of a newly announced *Elden Ring: Complete Edition*. Pre-orders go live today, and collectors have something to celebrate, too: the limited “Miquella Edition” includes an artbook, statue, and downloadable soundtrack.

Given its sprawling open-world success and deep narrative mystique, *Elden Ring* cultivated one of the most passionate communities in modern gaming. With *Shadow of the Erdtree*, it looks like FromSoftware is ready to take players even further down the rabbit hole of cosmic horror and mythic tragedy. Strap in: the Lands Between are about to get a lot more dangerous.
