Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree Gets June 2024 Release Date, Explosive New Trailer

FromSoftware has finally pulled back the curtain on Elden Ring’s highly anticipated DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree. After more than a year of cryptic teases, fans were treated today to a jaw-dropping new trailer—and a confirmed release date of June 21, 2024.

The cinematic and gameplay hybrid trailer, released via Bandai Namco’s official YouTube channel, showcases an ominous new realm shrouded in golden mists and blood-soaked earth. Players can expect a return to the Lands Between, but not as they know it. The expansion introduces fresh biomes, grotesque new enemies, and a deeper dive into the lore of the enigmatic figure Miquella—brother of Malenia—believed to be at the center of the story.

Perhaps the most exciting revelation is just how sizable the expansion appears to be. FromSoftware’s Hidetaka Miyazaki has previously hinted that Shadow of the Erdtree would rival (if not surpass) past expansions like Dark Souls 3’s The Ringed City in terms of scale and challenge. Today’s footage lends credibility to that claim, with sweeping environments that range from decaying fortress towns to twisted, otherworldly forests—and several massive boss encounters teased throughout.

The trailer was quickly followed by updates to both Steam and console storefronts, confirming that pre-orders are now live. Shadow of the Erdtree will be available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC as part of a premium expansion priced at $39.99. Bandai Namco also announced a Collector’s Edition including a 40-page art book, an exclusive Miquella statue, and digital soundtrack for die-hard fans.

Elden Ring’s base game received universal accolades upon release in 2022, earning multiple Game of the Year awards and amassing a huge player base. Since then, players have combed every inch of the Lands Between, eagerly awaiting new content—and of course, fresh challenges to conquer.

With the return to FromSoftware’s haunting, high-fantasy world officially on the calendar, it’s safe to say the countdown begins now.
