FromSoftware has finally lifted the veil on Elden Ring’s highly anticipated DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree, with a bang. After months of cryptic teases and rampant speculation, today the studio confirmed a June 21, 2024 release date alongside a gorgeous new trailer that has fans buzzing.
The trailer, clocking in at over three minutes, unveils a hauntingly beautiful and deadly new realm. We see ghostly landscapes, twisted enemies, and cryptic new characters—all dripping with the kind of dark fantasy aesthetic fans have come to expect from FromSoftware. Most striking is the appearance of a mysterious figure shrouded in gold, speculated by fans to be Miquella, a character deeply rooted in Elden Ring lore but never fully seen in the base game.
Shadow of the Erdtree is set to be Elden Ring’s first and only major expansion. While FromSoftware has been notoriously tight-lipped about narrative details, the trailer hints at a new realm outside the Lands Between, potentially in the Land of Shadow hinted at earlier in item descriptions. The DLC promises to expand both the world and lore of the game significantly, with fresh boss battles, new gear, and areas rumored to rival the scope of entire older Souls games.
In a press release, publisher Bandai Namco emphasized that the DLC aims to “challenge and reward veteran Tarnished” while offering fresh storytelling that “delves into the hidden corners of Elden Ring’s mythos.” The expansion will launch across all platforms—PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC via Steam.
Preorders for the DLC and a new collector’s edition are already live. The premium edition includes a detailed statue of the newly revealed character, a hardcover art book, and digital soundtrack.
As the Elden Ring community gears up to return to the shattered world of the Erdtree, one thing is certain: FromSoftware is once again poised to redefine the DLC experience with its signature blend of mystery, challenge, and breathtaking world design.
