FromSoftware has finally unveiled the long-awaited release date for Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, the first major expansion to its 2022 Game of the Year. Fans can mark their calendars for June 21, 2024, as that’s when players will return to the Lands Between for what promises to be a massive and lore-rich new chapter in the Elden Ring universe.

Alongside the announcement, a brand-new cinematic gameplay trailer dropped today, offering a tantalizing glimpse at what awaits Tarnished brave enough to step into the DLC’s new region. The nearly three-minute trailer is packed with haunting landscapes, cryptic story fragments, and — naturally — jaw-dropping boss encounters. FromSoftware seems to be doubling down on everything that made the base game a sensation: challenging combat, open-world exploration, and deeply mysterious storytelling.

One of the key highlights of the trailer is a grim new area known as the “Land of Shadow,” veiled in darkness and filled with foreboding ruins and twisted creatures. The trailer also teased several new bosses, including a blazing knight clad in golden armor and a wyvern-like monstrosity soaring above crumbling ruins. It’s clear FromSoftware is pulling no punches in terms of scale or spectacle.

Story-wise, Shadow of the Erdtree appears to focus on the enigmatic figure of Miquella, a character shrouded in mystery since the original game. Players may finally get answers to some of Elden Ring’s most confounding lore threads as they chase the shadow left behind in the wake of the Erdtree’s blaze.

Shadow of the Erdtree will be available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Preorders for both the standard expansion and multiple collector’s editions — including a lavish statue of Miquella — are now live. Hardcore fans will be pleased to know that the DLC won’t be a short detour, but rather a full-fledged expansion with hours of new content to discover.

With just a few months to go, the hype surrounding Shadow of the Erdtree is already reaching a fever pitch. Elden Ring veterans, get ready — the Lands Between are calling once again.
