After months of anticipation and cryptic teases, FromSoftware has officially unveiled the release date for Elden Ring’s much-hyped DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree. The massive expansion is set to launch on June 21, 2024, for all platforms, and to mark the occasion, a brand-new cinematic trailer has been released, offering our first real glimpse at the haunting new lands and formidable foes awaiting the Tarnished.

The 3-minute trailer, revealed early this morning, features a moody and majestic tour of the Land of Shadow—an unexplored region steeped in mystery and decay. Fans of the base game will be thrilled to see glimpses of new enemy types, ominous landscapes, and cryptic references to Miquella, a figure long shrouded in lore. With atmospheric visuals and soul-stirring music, FromSoftware appears to be doubling down on the dark fantasy worldbuilding that made Elden Ring a masterpiece.

According to an official press release, Shadow of the Erdtree will feature new legacy dungeons, complex NPC questlines, and an expanded arsenal of weapons and magic. The expansion is said to rival the size of some full-length titles, indicating a truly colossal addition to the existing game. Hidetaka Miyazaki, director of Elden Ring, emphasized that the DLC is “as ambitious in scope as anything we’ve created to date.”

Fans have responded with growing excitement across social media. “Just when I thought I was done dying in the Lands Between, they pull me right back in,” one user posted on X (formerly Twitter). Preorders for the expansion are now live, with both digital and physical collector’s editions available, some including a limited-edition Miquella statue.

With Elden Ring earning Game of the Year honors in 2022 and continuing to influence the RPG genre, expectations are sky-high for this upcoming chapter. If the trailer is any indication, Shadow of the Erdtree will take players even deeper into the mythos of the Lands Between—and challenge them like never before.

June 21 can’t come soon enough.
