FromSoftware has officially unveiled the long-awaited release date for Elden Ring’s first major expansion, “Shadow of the Erdtree,” with a brand-new trailer that dives deeper into the game’s mythos. Launching on June 21, 2024, the DLC promises to deliver a massive new area, formidable bosses, and fresh lore to delve into—just in time to reignite the fires of obsession for Tarnished everywhere.
The new trailer, which dropped early this morning, offers tantalizing glimpses into the mysterious Land of Shadow. While details remain cryptic, players can spot eerie landscapes, a towering spectral tree twisted in golden flame, and new enemies that suggest the expansion will delve into the darker corners of the game’s world. Most notably, fan-favorite and elusive character Miquella appears prominently, hinting that we may finally unravel his story following his disappearance in the base game.
Game director Hidetaka Miyazaki has called Shadow of the Erdtree the “largest expansion” in FromSoftware’s history, surpassing even the likes of Bloodborne’s The Old Hunters and Dark Souls 3’s Ringed City. Players can expect new weapons, armor sets, and magic alongside a fresh narrative arc that supposedly runs parallel to the events of Elden Ring’s main story.
Pre-orders for the DLC are live now for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, with a deluxe edition offering bonus art and a digital soundtrack. In a surprise move, Bandai Namco is also releasing a physical Collector’s Edition bundled with a statue of Miquella and a hardcover lore book, which sold out within hours of announcement.
With Shadow of the Erdtree just months away, the Elden Ring community is already buzzing with speculation, theory-crafting, and renewed discussion over unanswered lore questions. After two years of fan theories and datamined hints, FromSoftware’s return to the Lands Between appears poised to be as haunting, beautiful, and brutal as ever.
