Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree Trailer Drops, Confirms June Release Date

MelloGeneral Gaming News2 days ago3 Views

FromSoftware has finally lifted the veil on its long-awaited Elden Ring DLC. The reveal trailer for *Shadow of the Erdtree* premiered earlier today, giving fans their first look at new enemies, a mysterious realm steeped in decay, and, perhaps most tantalizingly, a confirmed release date: June 21, 2024.

Set in an entirely new region outside the known Lands Between, *Shadow of the Erdtree* appears to chart a darker, more surreal path. The trailer features haunting imagery—a field of withered trees, a burial procession carried by spectral figures, and a towering figure wrapped in writhing tendrils—all set beneath an ominous, blackened sun. FromSoftware has long been renowned for its cryptic storytelling, and that tradition is clearly alive here, with glimpses of a golden-haired character (possibly Miquella) and cryptic narration hinting at themes of loss, rebirth, and betrayal.

Gameplay-wise, fans caught sight of several new weapons, including a whip-blade hybrid and what appears to be arcane incantations unlike anything seen in the base game. New enemy types were shown in quick succession: a centipede-like horror, armored knights corrupted by rot, and a towering beast cloaked in tendrils that evoke memories of the cosmic grotesqueries of *Bloodborne*. There also seem to be new traversal mechanics, potentially tied to upgraded Torrent abilities or even horseback combat innovations.

Notably, *Shadow of the Erdtree* will not be a standalone expansion—players will need to own the base game to access the new content. FromSoftware confirmed that the DLC will be available simultaneously on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. A collector’s edition, featuring a Miquella-themed statue and art book, will also launch alongside the expansion.

With over twenty million copies of *Elden Ring* sold since its February 2022 debut, the anticipation for *Shadow of the Erdtree* has reached fever pitch. If today’s trailer is any indication, FromSoftware is ready to remind us yet again why it stands at the pinnacle of modern action RPG design.
