After years of speculation and near-radio silence, Bethesda has finally provided an update on *The Elder Scrolls VI*, reigniting hope among fans of the legendary RPG series. In an interview released earlier today, Bethesda Game Studios confirmed that active development on *The Elder Scrolls VI* has shifted into high gear, with key personnel moving from *Starfield* to work full-time on Tamriel’s next major chapter.
Todd Howard, the executive producer behind both *Starfield* and *The Elder Scrolls* series, clarified the studio’s current trajectory following *Starfield*’s major expansion, *Shattered Space*, which launched in May. “With *Shattered Space* now out the door and *Starfield* content updates stabilizing, we’re able to concentrate much more on *The Elder Scrolls VI*. The core team is fully engaged, and pre-production has successfully transitioned into active development,” said Howard.
While Howard was careful not to reveal a release window, he emphasized that the game’s development is moving forward “with all the lessons we’ve learned from *Skyrim* and *Starfield*.” This marks the first meaningful status update since the game’s cinematic teaser back in 2018, which offered only a mountainous landscape and a title card to chew on.
Fans were quick to react across Reddit and social media, with many celebrating the long-awaited progress. However, some expressed ongoing concern about the studio’s ambitious scope and the potential for another long wait. “I’ll believe it when I see a gameplay trailer,” one Reddit user replied. Others are more cautiously optimistic: “If it’s anything like Skyrim but modernized, it’ll be worth the wait.”
Industry analysts suggest that with Bethesda’s resources now largely realigned toward *The Elder Scrolls VI*, we may see a full reveal, possibly with gameplay, by late 2025. Until then, fans are encouraged to keep their expectations in check, as Bethesda is known for taking its time — often to great effect.
One thing is clear: the road to Tamriel has finally opened again, and for millions of fans, the journey can’t begin soon enough.
