After months of speculation and vague teases, Square Enix has officially confirmed that a PC version of *Final Fantasy XVI* is in development and scheduled to launch in 2024. The announcement came directly from producer Naoki Yoshida, who addressed eager fans in a special video update released earlier today.
“We’ve heard your voices, and we’re excited to confirm that a PC version of *Final Fantasy XVI* is on its way,” Yoshida said. “Our goal is to deliver a polished, high-quality experience that meets the expectations of both PC players and longtime Final Fantasy fans.”
Originally released as a PlayStation 5 exclusive in June 2023, *Final Fantasy XVI* marked a dramatic tonal shift for the franchise, embracing a darker, mature narrative and real-time combat system reminiscent of western action RPGs. Despite initial skepticism, the title won over fans and critics alike, thanks in part to its gripping story, cinematic presentation, and standout performances—especially that of protagonist Clive Rosfield.
Yoshida noted that the team has been hard at work optimizing the game for PC hardware, emphasizing that they’re “not rushing the process.” While no exact release date has been revealed, he confirmed that players can expect a more detailed update in early 2024, possibly including system requirements and preorder information.
In addition, Yoshida teased that new downloadable content is also in the works, though he remained tight-lipped about whether it would launch simultaneously on PC and PS5 or be staggered across platforms.
The PC port of *Final Fantasy XVI* is seen as a major move for Square Enix, aligning with the company’s recent efforts to expand its flagship titles beyond consoles. If *Final Fantasy VII Remake Integrate*’s successful PC launch is any indication, the bar is set high—but fans have reasons to remain optimistic.
