Nintendo Direct June 2024: Metroid Prime 4 Finally Unveiled Amid a Packed Lineup

After years of speculation, silence, and eager anticipation, Nintendo finally lifted the curtain on Metroid Prime 4 during today’s June 2024 Nintendo Direct, immediately launching the title into the spotlight as the presentation’s showstopper. Officially titled *Metroid Prime 4: Resurgence*, the game will release in Spring 2025 for the Nintendo Switch and its current successor, as Nintendo confirmed cross-generation support.

The trailer, which clocked in at just under three minutes, offered a tantalizing look at gameplay, revealing Samus Aran navigating a vast, interconnected world with visuals powered by Unreal Engine 5. Retro Studios remains at the helm, confirming earlier rumors that the game had seen a full reboot in 2019. Fans were treated to a cinematic glimpse of new enemies, revamped scanning mechanics, and fluid combat that blends traditional lock-on shooting with modern traversal elements.

In addition to the Metroid shocker, today’s Direct was packed with major announcements. Nintendo revealed a new 2D Donkey Kong platformer, *Donkey Kong Country: Rise of the Kongs*, launching this holiday season. The game revives the beloved side-scrolling style with high-definition hand-drawn animation and four-player co-op.

RPG fans were also given a surprise: *Chrono Remnant*, a spiritual successor to *Chrono Trigger*, is in development from a team composed of former Square Enix veterans under the new studio EtherDream. Though only a brief teaser was shown, the game has already set social media abuzz with speculation.

As Nintendo’s next-gen hardware looms on the horizon, this Direct signaled the company’s commitment to delivering major franchises and bold new ideas during the current console’s twilight. While some fans were hoping for updates on the next *Zelda* installment, the return of *Metroid Prime* is the sort of headline moment that reaffirms the Big N’s ability to surprise — and satisfy — its community.

Expect more in-depth coverage of *Metroid Prime 4: Resurgence* in the coming weeks, as Nintendo is expected to feature a playable build at Gamescom 2024 in August. For now, the hunt resumes — and Samus is back.
