Blizzard Entertainment has unveiled sweeping updates to *Overwatch 2*, including major hero reworks and a long-awaited roadmap for Player vs Environment (PvE) content, setting the stage for the game’s pivotal Season 11 launch this July.
In a developer livestream held Tuesday, Game Director Aaron Keller and members of the Overwatch team detailed reworks to several longstanding heroes, notably Cassidy, Sombra, and Orisa. Cassidy’s Magnetic Grenade has been replaced with an all-new “Shock Round,” a sticky projectile that deals damage over time and disrupts enemy abilities. Sombra’s rework enhances her stealth mechanics while pulling back some damage output to reinforce her role as a disruptor. Orisa, meanwhile, is getting adjustments aimed at making her less oppressive in close-range engagements, reflecting ongoing community feedback.
“We want flexibility and balance across all roles, especially Tank and DPS, which players have told us feel uneven,” Keller said during the stream. “These reworks are about shaping a healthier meta.”
Perhaps even more exciting for longtime players was the reveal of the PvE roadmap — a feature first teased during *Overwatch 2*’s 2019 announcement. While previous plans for a full-fledged PvE campaign were scaled down, the team confirmed that a series of narrative-driven co-op missions will begin rolling out throughout Season 11 and into early 2025. These missions will feature expansive maps, voiced cutscenes, and progression systems where players can level up heroes with unique abilities exclusive to PvE.
Season 11 also introduces a new limited-time mode called “Omnic Crisis Redux,” playable during the launch window. Set during the early days of the game’s lore, it allows players to relive key moments with a fresh twist and story elements that tie into the upcoming missions.
Blizzard closed the presentation by affirming their commitment to building a “more transparent development cycle,” promising frequent balance patches and community Q&A sessions after major updates.
With Season 11 shaping up to be *Overwatch 2*’s most ambitious yet, both competitive and casual players have reason to rejoin the fight.
