PlayStation State of Play Unveils Surprise Wolverine Gameplay and Major 2024 Release Dates

Sony’s latest PlayStation State of Play livestream aired today, delivering a slew of exciting announcements that have left fans buzzing—and none more so than the unexpected gameplay reveal of Marvel’s Wolverine. Developed by Insomniac Games, the same studio behind the critically acclaimed Spider-Man series, Wolverine was initially announced in 2021 but had remained largely under wraps—until now.

The new gameplay trailer showcases Logan’s brutal combat style in gritty cinematic fashion. Set primarily in the fictional Madripoor, players will experience a darker, more mature narrative compared to the Spider-Man games. Insomniac confirmed Wolverine is targeting a late 2025 release window, though that could shift as development progresses. Fans immediately drew comparisons to the Arkham series in tone, with fluid animations, visceral finishers, and plenty of adamantium-fueled rage on display.

Sony used the digital showcase to confirm a stacked lineup of 2024 release dates, including the long-awaited Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, which lands on February 29, 2024. FromSoftware also made an appearance, revealing a teaser for an Elden Ring DLC titled “Shadow of the Erdtree.” While a release date wasn’t confirmed, the footage indicated a return to the Lands Between with new enemies, bosses, and lore-rich locales.

Other notable highlights included a new trailer for Stellar Blade, a sci-fi action game previously delayed, now locked in for April 26, 2024. Team Asobi also teased its next Astro Bot adventure, which is heavily rumored to take full advantage of the PS5’s DualSense haptics and 3D audio.

The State of Play stream was fast-paced and content-rich, lasting just under 40 minutes. Despite lacking any news on the rumored PS5 Pro, fans walked away with plenty to anticipate in the coming months—and years.
