Starfield’s Latest Patch Overhauls Inventory, Fast Travel, and Adds New City Maps

Bethesda’s spacefaring epic *Starfield* continues its post-launch evolution with the release of a major new update that dramatically improves inventory management, fast travel functionality, and navigation within the game’s sprawling cities. The long-awaited patch, version 1.10.29, is one of the most community-driven updates yet, addressing some of the most persistent fan complaints since the game’s September 2023 launch.

Top of the list is the new city map system, a game-changer for players who’ve long been frustrated by the lack of proper navigation tools in major urban hubs like New Atlantis, Akila City, and Neon. The update introduces fully detailed surface maps with markers for key vendors, mission locations, and fast travel points. While still minimalist in design, the city maps finally offer much-needed orientation for explorers on foot.

Inventory management also gets a much-needed overhaul. Players will now benefit from improved sorting options, better categorization, and quality-of-life tweaks that make juggling loot considerably easier. The wildly requested “transfer all junk” option has also been added, significantly streamlining base and ship operations for scavenger-focused players.

Perhaps the most impactful change is the upgrade to fast travel, which now offers smarter logic and fewer restrictions. Players can directly jump from surface areas to ships and between key locations without being forced through a sequence of menus or load screens. This tweak brings a noticeable reduction in downtime while traveling between planets or revisiting settled areas.

Beyond the headline features, the patch includes a raft of stability improvements and bug fixes. Bethesda also confirmed that the long-promised official mod support is still on track for a 2024 release, with more updates planned ahead of it.

Bethesda’s continued effort to refine *Starfield* comes amidst mixed reception to the game’s scope and execution. While critics praised the ambitious scale and freedom, others lamented the sterile world-building and interface shortcomings. With this latest patch, the developer seems more committed than ever to bridging that gap and giving players the galaxy-hopping experience they’d imagined.

*Starfield* is currently available on PC and Xbox Series X|S, with Game Pass access included.
