Ubisoft Unveils Open-World Star Wars Outlaws, Releasing August 30

Ubisoft has officially announced that *Star Wars Outlaws*, the highly anticipated open-world action-adventure game set in the galaxy far, far away, will launch on August 30, 2024. Developed by Massive Entertainment, the studio behind *The Division* series, *Outlaws* promises players an expansive, single-player Star Wars experience unlike anything that’s come before.

Set between the events of *The Empire Strikes Back* and *Return of the Jedi*, *Star Wars Outlaws* follows the story of Kay Vess, a daring scoundrel trying to pull off the biggest heist the Outer Rim has ever seen. With her loyal companion Nix, Kay will explore iconic and new planets alike, navigate criminal syndicates, and make choices that shape her destiny in an interconnected galaxy filled with peril and opportunity.

During today’s Ubisoft Forward presentation, the publisher showcased an extended gameplay demo highlighting fast-paced blaster combat, ground-to-space traversal, stealth mechanics, and vehicular action both on land and in orbit. The demo also teased player choice systems and faction reputations, similar to those seen in RPGs, offering a glimpse into a morally gray world where every decision could chart a new course.

“We wanted *Outlaws* to capture that ‘Star Wars’ underworld fantasy—being the rogue who’s always just one step ahead of trouble,” said Julian Gerighty, Creative Director at Massive Entertainment. “Freedom of exploration, meaningful choices, and a cinematic narrative were our guiding lights. This is *Star Wars* for people who’ve always dreamed of flying under the radar.”

The game will launch across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, with pre-orders opening today. Ubisoft also confirmed several editions will be available at launch, including a Gold Edition with Season Pass access and a Collectors Edition featuring a model speeder and character artbook.

With its release debuting just ahead of the fall blockbuster gaming season, *Star Wars Outlaws* could be one of the biggest third-party titles of the year—not just for Star Wars fans, but for anyone craving a story-rich, galaxy-spanning escapade from one of gaming’s most iconic universes.
