In a move that’s sure to excite PC gamers and cloud gaming enthusiasts alike, Microsoft has confirmed that Xbox Cloud Gaming will finally be adding keyboard and mouse support later this summer. The long-anticipated update marks a significant milestone for the service, which has primarily relied on controller input since its launch.

During a panel session at the recent Game Stack Live developer event, Xbox software engineer Morgan Brown revealed that native keyboard and mouse support for cloud-based titles is on the way, and that game developers can begin testing the functionality immediately. The feature is expected to roll out widely over the next few months, bringing the Xbox Cloud Gaming experience closer to parity with traditional PC gaming.

“Keyboard and mouse support has been among the most requested features since day one,” Brown said. “We’re thrilled to expand how players interact with titles on the cloud, improving both accessibility and gameplay experience for a broader audience.”

Until now, Xbox Cloud Gaming users have been limited to using Xbox controllers, even when playing on PCs or laptops. This could be especially restrictive in genres like first-person shooters, real-time strategy, and simulation games, which traditionally benefit from the precision afforded by a keyboard and mouse setup.

Once implemented, the new input options will enhance a growing lineup of cloud-playable Xbox Game Pass titles. Popular games like Halo Infinite, Sea of Thieves, and Microsoft Flight Simulator are among the titles that stand to benefit most from the expanded control scheme. However, support will depend on developers choosing to enable the functionality in their respective games.

Microsoft has not yet released an exact launch date for the update, but reaffirmed its commitment to making Xbox Cloud Gaming accessible to as many players as possible. The company continues to invest heavily in cloud infrastructure and seamless device interoperability, underscoring its long-term vision for the future of gaming.

With keyboard and mouse support on the horizon, Xbox Cloud Gaming is poised to attract a new wave of users who prefer the familiarity and precision of traditional PC inputs—without being tethered to a high-end machine.
