Xbox’s Big Cloud Bet: Microsoft Brings Call of Duty to GeForce Now Amid Regulatory Wins

MelloGeneral Gaming News1 week ago4 Views

In a move that reshapes the landscape of game streaming, Microsoft has announced that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II and Warzone will now be available on NVIDIA’s GeForce Now platform. This marks a significant stride in Microsoft’s ongoing effort to bring its prestigious game franchises to more players via the cloud, a strategy that gained traction in light of Microsoft’s massive $69 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard.

The announcement comes shortly after the European Commission gave its approval of the acquisition, citing Microsoft’s commitment to broaden competition in cloud gaming. One key concession Microsoft offered regulators was guaranteeing that popular titles like Call of Duty would remain accessible on rival platforms—not just Xbox and PC. Today’s rollout of Call of Duty on GeForce Now is a visible sign of that promise being fulfilled.

Players who own Modern Warfare II or Warzone through Steam or the Microsoft Store can now stream the games directly through GeForce Now. This opens the door for gamers using lower-end hardware like Chromebooks and lightweight laptops to enjoy Call of Duty’s high-end visuals and fast-paced multiplayer without needing a high-spec PC or console.

NVIDIA and Microsoft first announced their partnership earlier this year, with both companies emphasizing the mutual benefit of bringing more AAA titles to the cloud. With this launch, Call of Duty joins other Activision Blizzard games like Overwatch 2 and Diablo IV, which are expected to arrive on GeForce Now in the coming months.

“This is about putting players first,” said Phil Spencer, CEO of Microsoft Gaming. “We want to give gamers more choice in how they play, and that means supporting them on multiple platforms—including the cloud.”

As the cloud gaming space continues to gain momentum, Microsoft’s strategic partnerships and regulatory greenlights may shape a more open and accessible future for AAA games. Today’s move not only fulfills regulatory commitments but signals a new era in how blockbuster franchises like Call of Duty are delivered and played.
